Kunzang Chöling of Evansville is rooted in the Kagyu and Nyingma schools of Tibetan Buddhism, and in the treasure lineage of Terchen Barway Dorje. The Kagyu school is often called the "Practice School" due to our emphasis on meditation and practice. Our lineage originated in the yogic Buddhist, mahasiddha tradition that came to Tibet from northern India, and many of the meditative practices for which we're known derive from this siddha tradition.
KCE was founded as the Palchen Study Group of Evansville in June 2009 with the approval of Ven. Bardor Tulku Rinpoche. Bardor Rinpoche is founder and spiritual head of Kunzang Palchen Ling (KPL) in Red Hook, NY, and for 30 years was instrumental in helping establish Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, NY. Rinpoche now spends his time working to firmly establish Kunzang Palchen Ling for the benefit of all beings—especially students in the West.
Kunzang Chöling of Evansville is coordinated by Evansville native Alan McCoy. Alan has been a student of Bardor Rinpoche for the past 18 years. He is a member of KPL, and was a member of the Karma Triyana Dharmachakra affiliate in Jacksonville, Florida for nine years before returning to Evansville in 2006.
"Terchen Barway Dorje cared deeply for educating lay people and for bringing the most powerful teachings to men and women living as ordinary people. In this he was something of an outsider. He could have lived as a monk, reserving the highest dharma for monks, but he chose not to. His students are the beneficiaries of a tradition that insists on bringing dharma to life through living it."
